Australian guard Josh Green will not be available when the Charlotte Hornets open training camp next month, with coach Charles Lee confirming the Sydney product is still rehabbing from left shoulder surgery in June, according to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer.
Lee said both Green and forward Grant Williams are “progressing” but neither will be ready to start camp. The team has not set a specific timetable for Green’s return.
Green remains involved with the Hornets’ program while completing his recovery. He has been working closely with performance staff and staying engaged with teammates despite being sidelined.
Williams, who is returning from a torn ACL, appears closer to playing again. During a recent team dinner, LaMelo Ball noted that Williams is moving well and looking more like his old self.
While Green’s absence is a blow, Charlotte see him as an important piece once he is cleared. The Hornets enter Lee’s second season as coach looking to lift competitiveness across training camp and the early part of the schedule, with Green expected to boost their guard rotation later in the campaign.
With the off-season additions of Colin Section, high draft pick Kon Knueppel and a recovered and improving Brandon Miller, expectations are being raised in the Queen City.
