Sunday, October 19, 2025: Bendigo Spirit v Townsville Fire (Red Energy Arena)
The two teams who squared-off for the WNBL championship last season are expected to be competing for a title once again in season 2025-26.
After the Bendigo Spirit, led by NBA star Sami Whitcomb, swept the Townsville Fire 2-0 in the grand final series both teams have made significant changes to their roster as one prepares for a tilt at back-to-back trophies and the other is on a quest to go one step further.
Whitcomb has departed but the Spirit have covered her loss with the addition of another Opal, in young gun Isobel Borlase, while the Fire have added sharpshooter Miela Sowah to their roster.
Fans won't have to wait long for the grand final rematch and to see how both teams stack up for the new season as the Spirit and Fire face-off in the opening round.
Saturday, October 18, 2025: Geelong United v Sydney Flames
The return of Shyla Heal to the WNBL could completely transform Geelong United's hopes of making the playoffs in their second year in the league.
But is also adds to the match-up between Geelong and Sydney — one of her former teams in the league when she was coached by her dad, Shane Heal.
While there's no historic rivalry between the two teams, heal could be on a mission to make a statement against the Flames.
Tuesday, November 18, 2025 Adelaide Lightning v Bendigo Spirit
Isobel Borlase is a South Australian through and through.
Having played her juniors at the Forestville Eagles before starting her professional career with the Adelaide Lightning, Borlase became a young superstar in Adelaide, even going on to help the Opals claim a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
But Borlase made the tough decision to sign elsewhere in WNBL free agency, joining defending champions the Bendigo Spirit as Sami Whitcomb's replacement. And while the Lightning have retooled under new coach Kerryn Mitchell, Borlase's return to Adelaide will be one to watch.
Sunday, December 28, 2025: Southside Flyers v Adelaide Lightning
Dallas Loughridge is another young gun in the WNBL who has switched allegiances in the offseason, going from the Southside Flyers to the revamped Adelaide Lightning.
Loughridge was part of the Flyers 2024 championship team and then had a career-year last season but is expected to get more opportunity with the Lightning and will be looking to make her mark when Adelaide travel to Melbourne to take on Southside on December 28.
Partnering with the likes of 2020 WNBL MVP Steph Talbot, Loughridge and the Lightning will be looking to take the historic club back to the WNBL playoffs and a win in the youngster's return to Southside will be a step in the right direction.
Tuesday, November 4, 2025: Perth Lynx v Townsville Fire
One of the biggest rivalries and fiery contests in the WNBL during season 2024-25 was when the Perth Lynx and Townsville Fire matched-up with each other.
It was physical, heated and poured into when the teams met in the semi-finals as the Fire took out the series 2-0 but it wasn't without challenges from Ryan Petrik's side.
Add to that rivalry the fact that one of the league's top guard, Miela Sowah, switched from the Lynx to Townsville in the offseason and this rivalry just went up another notch.
Saturday, October 18, 2025: Southside Flyers v Canberra Capitals (TBC)
Sara Blicavs is widely-known as one of the most respected players in the WNBL and Australian basketball fans are on edge eagerly awaiting her return to the court after signing with the Canberra Capitals.
After more than a year out of the game with a serious back injury, Blicavs took her first step recently with the Opals in the Trans-Tasman Throwdown but the two-time WNBL champion will play the team she led to the 2020 title in her first game back on October 18.
It will not only be a memorable occasion for Blicavs but also for the Australian basketball community.
